Links to Selected Southern Pacific Sites

[SPH and TS]
Southern Pacific Historical & Technical Society
Includes information regarding membership, newsletters, publications of the Society, the quarterly magazine "Trainline," conventions, and a list of members with email addresses.
[eGroups]
Espee Mailing List
For information regarding anything about the SP and its subsidiaries, this is an excellent resource.
[my Espee Modelers Homepage]
my Espee Modelers Homepage
Richard Percy has created the mother of all Espee sites that has become the standard reference on the Web.
[Joel's SP in the Cascades]
Joel's SP in the Cascades
Joel Ashcroft's magnificent photoessay of one of the most beautiful (and one of my favorites) rail lines in all of the west: Southern Pacific's line from Oakridge to Cascade Summit, OR. Amply illustrated with excellent images and maps, this web site is very complete in describing the Cascade Line of the Shasta Route.
[Jim Lancaster's Trains Page]
Jim Lancaster's Trains Page
Great images of SP passenger trains photographed in the '50's and '60's.
[Alpha Rail Net]
Alpha Rail Net
by Larry Tuttle, displays scenes of the Siskiyou Line during SP's ownership, and now the Central Oregon & Pacific. Included are images of 4449 during its "Spirit of the West" Shipper's Special trip in December of 1988, as well as Larry's freelanced HO scale Siskiyou Pacific layout.
[Nor-Cal SP Connection]
Nor-Cal SP Connection
by John Barnhill, is a very comprehensive site, with text and photo rosters for the SP, Cotton Belt, and Rio Grande.
[SP Depots and Structures]
SPTCO Stations and Buildings Home Page
Art Fisher is busy documenting the remaining structures, signals, etc. of the SP. A very worthwhile site.
[Trainsorders.com]
Trainorders Interactive Railroading
Famous for the Tehachapi Railcam, there is also the Dunsmuir RailCam that is active 24 hours a day. There is also a link to the City of Dunsmuir, a Shasta Route town that was essentially created by Southern Pacific, and still serves as a crew change point.
[Altamont Press]
Railroad News Network
Formerly called Altamont Press, Rob Carlson's comprehensive site has a wealth of information for the western railfan, including upcoming events, Railfan Timetables (Don't leave home without it!), maps, books, and more.
[CSRM]
California State Railroad Museum
Unquestionably the finest railroad museum in the west (if not the country). Along with the huge number of displays of western railroad history, the museum is also a repository for thousands of documents that are made available to the serious historian. NOTE: The CSRM logo is used on this web site with the permission of the California State Railroad Museum Foundation.
[Centerville Depot]
Centerville Depot
Bill Wullenjohn has developed an incredibly complete site describing the history and restoration efforts of a Southern Pacific No. 23 Depot, located in the city of Fremont, CA. Historic images of the depot in its original form, and how the depot looks today, are only part of this site. Of particular interest to SP fans is a section concerning Historic Paint Colors. This is a very well-researched topic, including color chips, and images of restored and newer "replica" depots (such as Roseville, which was originally a single-story depot). The depot is destined to become part of the Centerville Civic Plaza, and will include a replica of an SP shelter that once stood at Miramar, near Santa Barbara, CA. This site is definitely worth a visit!
[Dan's Wig Wag Site]
Dan's Wig Wag Page
Dan Furtado is continually searching for imags of wig wags across the country. Once numerous in the west, they are slowly disappearing. Check out Dan's site for those that are still standing.
[Tunnel 13]
Tunnel 13
is the highest point on the former SP Siskiyou Branch. Now being operated by the Central Oregon & Pacific (CORP), it is still one of the most scenic stretches of railroad anywhere. Richard Wrede takes the visitor on a tour of the line from Medford, Oregon to Hornbrook, California. This is mountain railroading at its best.
[Joe Fugate's Siskiyou Line]
Joe Fugate's Siskiyou Line
is another site focusing on part of the original Shasta Route. Included are images of the line under Espee control, as well as Joe's excellent HO layout based on the Siskiyou and Coos Bay Branches.
[Mike Clark's Rails Northwest]
Mike Clark's Rails Northwest
Mike has started a new site with excellent images of railroading in the Pacific Northwest. Of interest to SP fans are pages devoted to the SD9E and GP9E locomotives in Oregon.
[Railgoat]
Lee Gautreaux's Home Page
Lee Gautreaux is quickly becoming the SP rolling stock "guru" on the web, and has an enviable collection of images.
